Your tellies ain’t just idiot boxes anymore but could be your gateway to mint money, browse and purchase NFTs. Wait, what?!
As bonkers as it sounds, electronics giant Samsung will add a Non-Fungible Token (NFT) trading app to its TVs this year. This groundbreaking new Samsung TV feature will be backed by NFT auction site Nifty Gateway in a partnership. The platform will let users access 6,000 + digital art pieces. Payments can be made via debit or credit cards and even cryptocurrency.
The NFT feature will be featured on Samsung’s own 2022 premium TV product lines like QLED and Neo QLED. TV models like The Frame and Micro LED will also host the Nifty Gateway.
Samsung announced that its TVs would “optimize the settings for a faithful rendering of the artist’s intention” when you showcase an NFT. Now that’s something! Can’t settle for anything less than pixel-perfect accuracy!
So say you’re watching a movie but decide to turn it off somewhere in between. Because Samsung’s intention for you is to view digital art, your telly would go into Ambient Mode and showcase artwork from your curated gallery.
Notably, the platform will also allow users to learn about blockchain metadata
and NFT’s history.
As Samsung becomes a pioneer to support NFTs to such a degree, can we expect other manufacturers to follow suit? Maybe your next Amazon Fire TV or One Plus TV could take it up a notch? Who knows!
