Vedantu Gears Up to Combat Byju’s and Unacademy, Plans Offline Centres

The pandemic hit several sectors of the economy, but one sector which thrived was Edtech. Learning transformed into online mode and Edtech Juggernauts like Byju’s, Vedantu, UpGrad and others became unicorns. As the economy now opens up, online education platform – Vedantu, is looking to expand and tap into offline classrooms

The billion-dollar edtech firm is still at a nascent stage with the plan and is currently brainstorming on how to take this forward. Vedantu CEO, Vamsi Krishna, unravels his thoughts that these offline centres will be like a learning centre embedded with plenty of technology where students can have the best of both worlds. 

Vedantu’s competitors and biggies like Byju’s and Unacademy have already opened their offline centres in various parts of India. Notably, Unacademy just opened up its first physical classroom in Delhi this March. Unlike conventional tuition centres such as Aakash, Unacademy’s physical centre will essentially be a product experience centre, said Gaurav Munjal, CEO and Co-founder, Unacademy.

Aiming for the stars 

Vedantu is also looking to expand its presence internationally. After the success of its Middle East operations, its plans of exploring other markets are already underway.

Last week saw UGC announcing its decision of having a compulsory common entrance test for admissions in 45 central universities. This is good news for Vedantu and other edtechs planning to go hybrid as physical classrooms will have increased demand.

The IPO Buzz

This March, Unacademy also rolled out its plans for launching its IPO in the next two years. This came after Byju’s, upGrad and Vedantu released their own IPO plans.
