Reliance Industries, one of India’s biggest mega empires is going for it once again. The Mukesh Ambani-owned company is building a shopping palace in Mumbai that will tap into the ultra-lux market. Within its $1 billion Mumbai business showcase, Reliance will install this portal through which most of the biggest brands must pass.
Of Malls, Palaces and the Riches
Reliance will house premium brands within its own plush space in Jio World Plaza. ‘Richie Rich Indians’ eyeing expensive labels can step into this curated melting pot of never-seen-before brands, flagship stores and other luxurious experiences.
We’re Talking about Something the Size of 10 Soccer Fields!
Spread across 4 floors, the mall will boast an area equal to that of 10 soccer fields, and will come complete with marble floors and golden guardrails. Some 30 brands for the upper ground floor of the mall, including LVMH’s Louis Vuitton, Tiffany and Dior have been confirmed so far.
LVMH rival Kering’s Gucci, Balenciaga and Bottega Veneta, Versace, Cartier and Hermes will also join the party.
All That Glitters is … Ambani’s?
In India’s retail segment worth nearly $900 billion, Reliance’s next salvo in luxury will face intense competition from the likes of Amazon and Walmart. The tycoon’s daughter and director of Reliance’s telecom arm, Isha Ambani, will help steer the luxury push.
Fun Fact: Louis Vuitton’s outlet in this mall will be its biggest in India at 7,376 square feet!
