A Brick-and-Mortar Store Is Meta’s New Flex

Proving that all digital fantasies must materialise, Meta is opening its first retail store next month on its campus in Burlingame, California. The store, which opens on May 9th, will let visitors try out and buy gadgets. The demo areas where visitors can experience the Meta hardware would make it easy to shop those hardware products online.

What’s in Store?

Visitors can try out:

  • Meta’s Portal videophones and Quest virtual reality headsets
  • Ray-Ban Stories smart glasses (that debuted last year)
  • Test several Meta Quest 2 demos, like Beat Saber, GOLF+, Real VR Fishing, and Supernatural
  • See Smart Camera in action and play with features like Story Time.

Visitors also take home a 30-second mixed reality clip of their demo experience at the Meta Store.

The Grand Stage

At roughly 1,550 square feet, the Meta Store has a relatively small footprint for an engaging experience. It is being strategically launched near Reality Labs HQ, where the real action of building the metaverse is taking place. The retail store will provide a staging ground for showing off future VR / AR projects as they develop.

It also gives Meta a closer look at how people will respond to this hardware — since much of which raises significant privacy concerns — in the real-world.

Too long? Here’s a one-liner: Meta is opening its first physical store on May 9th in California campus; houses demo areas to try out its gadgets and virtual experience.
