That’s right. Reliance has notched up yet another sector in its belt.
F&B is the latest fancy of India’s largest luxury to the premium retailer, Reliance Brands Ltd. (RBL). The company has joined forces with Pret A Manger, a British sandwich and coffee chain, to launch and establish the brand in India.
With this long-term master franchise partnership, RBL will open almost 100 outlets over the next 5 years, starting with major cities and travel hubs. The first coffee and sandwich shop will open in Mumbai before March 2023.
Pret A Manger, whose name translates to “ready to eat” in French, set up its first brick-and-mortar outlet in London in 1986. Over the past 35 years, it has set up 550 shops across 9 countries like the UK, the US, Europe, and Asia.
The brand sells organic coffee, sandwiches, salads, and wraps freshly made each day. It is owned by investment group JAB and founder Sinclair Beecham.
Talking about the partnership, Darshan Mehta, MD, RBL, said, “With its rich cache of insights on customers’ evolving spending habits and an ambitious expansion plan, RBL’s first foray into the food industry will bring the much-loved Pret dining experience to one of the biggest retail markets. Our partnership with Pret is rooted in the strong growth potential of both Pret as a brand as also of the F&B industry in India.”
“Indians, like their global counterparts, are seeking Fresh and Organic ingredient-led dining experiences, which has been synonymous with Pret’s core offering,” Mehta added.
Battle of the ‘Beans’
The UK food and beverages chain would battle it out with Tata’s Starbucks and Coca-Cola’s Costa Coffee in India.
Love For Foreign Waters
RBL had first marked its global foray with British toy retailer Hamleys. It currently hosts international brand partnerships with Armani Exchange, Bally, Bottega Veneta, Brooks Brothers, Tod’s, Burberry, Jimmy Choo, Michael Kors, Tiffany & Co, and Versace, among others.
Presently, RBL operates 1,937 standalone stores and 1,205 shop-in-shops in India. Let’s see what’s next in ‘store’!
